I have been editing the work of my fellow writers for six years, in both a professional capacity and an academic one (during my time in Columbia University’s MFA writing program). I edit fiction and nonfiction alike for reasonable rates. I have worked with writers of all experience levels, from published authors whose books have been widely reviewed, to dilettantes with ambitious literary dreams. I have edited everything from personal memoirs to legal casebooks to historical dissertations to novels and short stories of all genres. I have also taught fiction writing in a classroom setting.
If you hire me as your editor, you can expect my professional input on everything from your commas to your grand literary themes. You can expect constant email support as well as scheduled personal meetings about your work on Skype or at your coffee shop of choice. You can also expect plenty of follow-up advice and expertise on the business side of writing: agent queries, synopses, websites, publicity, and other concerns. I will do my best to shepherd your manuscript from a rough draft to a published book.
Please contact me at wistar dot murray at gmail dot com for my rates. Based on a ten-page writing sample, I can offer you an accurate estimate for the project as a whole, and we can also determine together if my editorial sensibilities are a good fit for your work.
